Top 5 Accessories for Your Drone

What Else Do I Need?

The most common question asked by customers after selecting the drone that fits them best is, “what else do I need?”. When buying a drone, there are a number of items that you should consider to add to your list. Below we will cover the top 5 accessories for your drone to make sure you are ready for anything while flying.

Batteries

Multiple batteries is the number 1 accessory purchased with drones, and for good reason. Most drones provide flight time under 30 minutes and if you’re flying for fun or for a job, 30 minutes is usually not enough time to capture everything you need. Having a total of 3 batteries provides you nearly an hour or more with the current lineup of DJI drones.

ND Filters

Matching your FPS to your shutter speed can be a challenge when you are getting footage in bright conditions. The rule of thumb is to have double or more in multiples of your FPS, in shutter speed; meaning if you are recording at 30FPS, your shutter speed is 1/60 or 1/90. Matching these settings can be a challenge in bright settings because your shutter speed likes to jump to numbers like 1/300 or 1/400 to compensate. ND filters bring down your overall exposure, making matching FPS and shutter speed much easier. Think of ND filters as sunglasses for your drone.

Spare Propellers

Often enough you will encounter a close call with your drone. Sometimes the close call means your propellers nicked or hit a solid surface, causing chips, cracks, or breaks. We offer the options for repair, but that takes you away from your shoot. For that reason, spare propellers are a necessity when purchasing a drone. Instead of having to stop the shoot and miss the shots, you have spares on you to replace on site.

Remote Modifications

One of the popular modifications our customers do with their drone is our remote modifications. With any of these mods, we first complete a Stage 1 Conversion and replace the thin wires within the remote with much thicker and stronger signal wires. Beyond that, we carry and install antennas from basic directional or omnidirectional antennas to booster and amplifiers paired with large surface area panel antennas.

These mods provide you with a stronger, more reliable connection between the RC and the drone. Where you would start to lose connection due to signal degradation at distances, these options provide you with a more reliable connection at range.

CrystalSky Monitors

The number one complaint of flyers in the sun is glare, usually followed by over heating of their iPad or iPhone. CrystalSky monitors aim to defeat both complaints by having 1000 and 2000 nit brightness screens, while most mobile devices have 500-600 nit screens. Brighter screens make it far easier to see in daylight. Second, overheating is overcame by the use of fans and heatsinks to keep the device cool whereas Apple products have a history of having aluminum chassis that absorbs the heat without being able to dissipate it.
